Fishing Stories

Whether it is a lack of threadfin shad, zebra muscles, lake elevation, climate, or all of the above, one thing is for sure, the fishing has never been this good this late in the summer. Don’t get me wrong, summer fishing can be great and we normally catch lots of big fish but this year is definitely and exception because we’re still catching fish like it is spring except they are all over 20”.

Lake Texoma striper fishing thru this first part of July continues to hold up. Limits of stripers are being caught in the 60-75 ft of water using gizzard shad. Were mainly fishing the river channel ledges and although you may not mark the stripers solid, you can set up on the scattered stripers and get them going. This past week we are seeing alot more of the overs ( 20 inches plus ) and some solid 18-19" box fish. I have had a couple of really good slab fishing days mixed in with some bad ones so until I see some changes Im back to baitfishing .

If my yard wasn't so parched, I would have been singing the ditty, Rain Rain go away, come again some other day, Rain Rain go away I want to fish today.   But as the weather forecast said 50% chance of rain.  So that's 50% we won't get rained on, right?  We load up a little before 6am.  It had been drizzling but wasn't as Mike, his boys Zach and Jacob and I loaded into Doug Keeter's Striper Master Falcon.  Before we got out of Highport Marina we had to don the rain gear.  We let our slabs down in about 30 foot of water and after a couple of missed hits the bottom fell out.  It was raining so hard you could hardly see the shoreline of Texas.  Doug headed to a nearby cove where we sought shelter in an empty boat slip.  We sat in the boat listening to the rain hammer the tin roof of the boat house for about half an hour.  The rain finally let up to a light drizzle and we headed back out.  Doug stopped at a promising spot and bam it was fish on.  Zach took the honors for first fish of the day and it wasn't long before everyone had one in the boat.  We all caught a couple of fish and then they were gone.  We moved to another spot and bam fish on again.  The cycle repeated itself several times until we had our fill.  It was still drizzling as we headed back to Highport but as we slowed down in the no wake zone it quit.  By the time we unloaded on the courtesy dock the skies had lightened up and we shed the rain gear and tried to dry out.  Another great day on beautiful Lake Texoma, a good load of texoma stripers and a nicely soaked yard.

With the Memorial Day Holidays behind us and the June days heating up, the striper fishing on Lake Texoma is at it's best.  Limits of stripers are being caught all over the lake.   Although I have caught some fish on top-water, live bait is still my preference at this time.

Needless to say the fishing has been just as awesome as expected for this time of year. It is as fast as you can drop your bait in the water and limits are coming in on average of about an hour leaving plenty of time to catch and release, cat fish, or look for bigger fish. We are forecasted to have our first 100° weather here in the first week in June. I can’t believe just 2 months ago in the first week in April we still had snow on the ground. With the water temperature rising, the big fish are starting to venture out into the deeper water. Most of my fish are coming in 50-60 ft. but I’m sometimes still finding the bigger fish in the 35-40ft range, but not always. Live bait is still the ticket and should remain so until the beginning of July. Most importantly, if you’re not beating the water, you’re not catching fish.

I took most of Memorial Day weekend off with the exception of Friday morning and Saturday morning. Fishing was still good and it wasn’t as crowed out there as I was expecting. It was nice to finally take a couple of days off to relax a little. Wednesday I was right back after it and the fishing just picked right back up where I had left off.

The Lake Texoma striper fishing thru the month of may just keeps getting better. Limits of stripers are being caught within a hour or two all over the lake. Tur current lake elevation is 619.01 an water tempeture is 78-80 degrees. I've fished both north and west of Highport Marina, finding large amounts of stripers in the 45-70 feet range of water holding on river channel ledges humps and ditches. Some days you can mark them solid and others they'll be a little scattered. Alough I like seeing the stripers piled in,as long as your marking scattered fish you can set up on them and they will find you. We're still using live bait mainly anchor fishing with a little drifting mixed in. When you get the fish pulled in it's an absolute feeding frenzy and this should continue for the 6-8 weeks and then we should be fishing slabs. If you have never experienced Lake Texoma striper fishing at its finest now is definitly the time to try it out. We'll continue to fish morn and afternoon trips until the bite slacks off but as for now both have produced large numbers of Texoma stripers. With the beautiful weather we have alot more boating traffic so vest up, be safe and enjoy your time on Lake Texoma.

Lake Texoma water temp is 64-70 degrees and lake elevation is 614.48 feet above sea level. The first part of April, Lake Texoma striper fishing has seen steady improvement. We're still using live bait drift fishing the 15-25 ft depth. The size of the fish has improved from the smaller males to the 16-19" good keepers and your over 20" stripers as well. Just about everywhere I've fished I am finding alot of stripers holding on the flats in 20 ft and less water.

It has been about two weeks since my last Lake Texoma fishing report and with the warmer weather we have seen a few changes on the lake. Water temperature is 43-49 degrees, lake elevation is 616.19 and water is off color. We are mainly fishing west of the Highport marina, working ledges and humps in the 30-45 ft water.

March 2. 2010:  Putting the fishing shows behind me, I took an ole friend from my home town, out on a little seek and find fishing trip, since we finally had a pretty day. It was a lot of seek since I had not been out in some time, but finally nailed down one of my ole fishing holes, and let him see how good he was at bringing in the "big one". He needed a lot of practice since he fishes out of Greenbelt Lake, but he finally got the hang of it again, and brought in some nice ones. It looks like the Spring Break coming up, will find Lake Texoma ready for the kids, and I am glad since I fish 20 of them in a couple weeks. I am posting a few pictures of yesterday, asking that if you have a free day or two, give me a hollar and lets go fishing , not hunting.

March 4. 2010:  same report, biggest this time to 12 lbs. Great fish, Great Day.

Lake Texoma water temp is 40-43 degrees, lake elevation is 617.88. Due to the crazy weather we have had this winter it has been a challenge just to keep some of my trips booked. Although when were able to get our trips in the lake texoma striper fishing has been pretty good. The cold overcast days have worked out well.

Lake Texoma striper fishing with stripermaster.com

The sunny days with very little wind I will admit have been tougher for me. Bait on the west side of the lake is the real challenge. From Highport Marina and to the west is pretty muddy water due to the rain and snow. I have mainly fished the stained water from Mill Creek back to the north working  the 45-60 foot water.

Catching some nice stripers, biggest to 16 lbs. Fish healthy, and good fighters. Although it is cold and rainy, the fish don't seem to care. We are having to go some distance to get to the fish, so need to wear rain gear, and dress warm. I will be putting out my catfish jugs the first or March, so will check them in conjunction to my striper trips, costing a little more for the jugs.  I have a couple shows, one in Wichita, and one in OKC, so if you get a chance, swing by and say hello.  I also wanted to mention that I am trying to organize a free guide trip for our soldiers, in mid November, who have recently returned from Afghanistan .  For more info visit http://striperfish.com

January is normally a month when striper fishing is not on the top of your list of things to do. We do have a select group of fishermen that wouldn't miss a chance at some big stripers in the winter. Boy, we have located some big stripers! Yesterday, we had 6 anglers in 2 boats that had a day to remember. They boarded at 11 am with adrenalin pumping. The first fish of the trip attacked the Road Runner jig and started stripping line, after a 5 minute fight we landed the 16lb. striper. What a way to start!

Five hours later, both boats had caught a total of 63 stripers up to 23.5lbs. The winter fishing is legendary on Lake Texoma. We released 6 fish from 14 to 16 lbs. Striper Express specializes in artificial lure fishing. We have a wonderful lake to back us up, and is chock full of striped bass. We sell "the thrill of the hunt!" If you like to bass fish this is an adventure not to be missed. We often compare it to bass on steroids!

We caught all the fish on RoadRunner 1oz.jigs, Moe's Dead Assassins and Shad Sticks from Stripedbasstackle.com. We are fishing main lake points and are slow rolling the jigs close to the bottom. A good tip is, If you think your reeling to slow…slow down. These trophies are rogue fish and tend to be in small groups. Like big bucks that don't run with the pack. These "pigs" produce vicious strikes and line stripping fights!

Greetings everyone from Lake Texoma and Striper Express Guide Service.

All these cold nights have cooled the lake and it is jig fishing at it's finest most days. Been some real nice stripers caught this last week. Small fish are not with these schools at all. It's a great time of year for the big fish.

A soft bait on a jighead been my weapon of choice plus a few roadrunners and buck-hair jigs. The fish are really moving up the rivers as of late. North of 70 and west of 377 are the areas to target but there are still plenty of fish mid-lake so don't overlook it. No live bait needed. Gulls are helping on some days but fish are on structure and points.

For your lure needs check out www.moestackleshop.com. His prices are unbeatable and products are superb! Tell him we sent you and I promise the prices will SHOCK you for sure. Great christmas idea for your favorite angler.

The fishing is still great but bait in my area is mostly non-existent.   I have traveled some l hour to find it for my pending fishing trips.   We have been anchoring on a ledge, 47-55 feet. and fish stayed with us, til we limited, and then burned bait, staying out on the water for the enjoyment of it.

Cross Creek Guide Service on Lake Texoma

Big fish are skinny, but the combinations of fish, giving lots of filets, to take home.    The weather was cold this week, but the weekend turned out nice.    Believe this Winter will be good all way to Spring.     I am going to take a break for few weeks, hopefully going to see my grandkids in California .   Good fishing…....JD

The water temperature of Lake Texoma is 49-54 degrees. The Lake Texoma elevation is 617.80 ft above sea level.

With the Texoma area temperatures the last couple of days being extremely cooler, the Lake Texoma striper fishing is now at its best. Large numbers of stripers are being caught daily. Live bait fishing has been solid in 30-60 ft of water while on anchor and even while drifting fishing thru the working seagulls. Gizzard shad are plentiful on the west end of the lake this time of year. Threadfin shad will also work but the gizzard shad are our winter bait of choice as they stay good and frisky thru out the day, while the threadfin shad tend to get pretty weak after a few hours in the bait tank.

Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Hot Fishing in Cold Weather!

I just got moved in to my new house and got the internet set up and I finally found the time to put out a fishing report. It feels great to finally get everything moved, now if I could just get all of my stuff to jump out of the boxes and put up where it belongs. The cold weather has definitely set in and the fishing remains as good as ever. The striper fishing is phenomenal and the catfishing is picking up. The big cats are still hanging around the cleaning docks put should start schooling up in the deep water any day now. Live bait on anchor in 30-50 ft is producing fish as fast as you can drop the bait down. Lures are working equally as well. 5” glow sassy shad with a 1 1/2 oz head and chartreuse spiked tail are the ticket fished in 15-30ft and slow rolled along the bottom under the birds.

The water temperature of Lake Texoma is 59-61 degrees. The lake elevation is 618.27. The last two weeks of striper fishing we've seen very little changes. On our live bait trips, it has been nothing to mow thru 250+ baits in a matter of a couple of hours. We are catching our share of the smaller little footballs, but we are catching alot of the healthy 17"-19" stripers with good overs mixed in.

The next several days are forecasted for some much needed cooler weather. This is what we need to get the larger stripers on the prowl for an easy meal. Although it can be cold and ugly outside this time of year, the next couple of months you really do have a much better chance of hooking up with a Lake Texoma trophy. Bait fishing creek and river channel ledges in 35-65 feet of water has worked well for me. Sea gulls are still working the schools of stripers all over the lake. Lure fishing remains to be good fishing backs of creeks to the west of Highport Marina using 3/4 and 1oz glo sassy shads and super flukes. For those of you not interested in the early morning bite, afternoon trips have been equally productive and a little warmer. So bundle up and get ready for some Lake Texoma winter fishing.

Lake Texoma elevation 619.43
Lake Texoma temperature 60-63 degrees

Greetings everyone from Lake Texoma and Striper Express Guide Service. These cold fronts followed by warm days have the stripers slowly moving up the rivers and creeks. The sand bass are fooled and all egged up ready to spawn. 2nd time in my career i've seen happen. More fish is always a bonus. Sassy shad been king but having some luck with buckhair jigs and flukes. The winter bite is close but there are still thousands of gulls all over the lake to help locate feeding schools. One day it's all pearl then the next all chartruese so try it all if your not getting hits. Also dip those tails in spike-it garlic dip.

Big Fish of the Week a good looking 12 lber.

The live bait fishing in great on river ledges. The tabletop been hot for over a month. Drop down bait and they will come. Almost don't have to mark any but the fish are roaming, hungry and aggressive. Shad are easy to get early under lights or later in the day in creeks.

The water temperature of Lake texoma is 64 degrees with an elevation of 619.50 ft. The past several weeks of striper fishing has been outstanding. I have mainly fished live bait the past couple of weeks with a few lure fishing trips. I would have to say at this time the live bait fishing is definately better. I have fished west of highport Marina and back to the north in 35-45 feet of water with great catches in both direction. We are starting to see the fish put on weight and are not catching near as many skinny fish and the smaller fish are chunks.

Lake Texoma elevation 617.74
Lake Texoma temperature 62-65 degrees

Greetings everyone from Lake Texoma and Striper Express Guide Service. This fall fishing is just fantastic! Gulls and schools are all over the lake. Fish are on structure and in the creeks. Stripers are roaming the flats…seeing the pattern here? Sassy shad has been getting us easy limits on most days. On some days they want chartreuse then the next day white glo or pearl. Spike-it dip been helpful on most days.

The live bait fishing is awesome as well. Shad are easy to get early in most marinas early or in the backs f some creeks later in the day. Drifting or on anchor is working just get the fish under you. Heard reports of all depths but 20-40ft along the river channel near some activity always a sure bet this time of year.
