Lake Texoma temperature 64-67 degrees

Hello from the big lake! Fishing remains excellent despite all this pretty weather. Both shifts are good right now & the fish are schooled up all over the lake. Sassy shad in glo, pearl and chartruese has been all we are throwing at them. Retrieves can change by the minute so fast, slow and somewhere in between. Don't be afraid to burn em.

A trophy striper was caught from the bank at night under the full moon this last week. 31.2 pounds and almost a lake record. Fish ate a fluke on a jig-head. Congrats to Biddy on his awesome catch and to the lake for producing it!

November fishing on Lake Texoma is a prime time to go striper fishing. Huge schools of striped bass are roaming the lake. Some of the fish will tip the scales at 15+ lbs. Thousands of seagulls are on the lake for the fall and winter. The water has cooled down and you can go fishing anytime of the day. Sassy Shad jigs are the baits of choice. You can use a 1-ounce jig head with a 4-inch whiteglo or chartreuse soft plastic tail. You need a good pair of binoculars to locate the different schools of fish that the birds are “working”. Your favorite fishing hotspots are the North Island area, west to the Willis Bridge.

Your fishing adventure awaits you with Striper Express. Now through the end of the year is considered the best fishing of the year. This is perfect for company trips, your family and friends.  You can purchase gift certificates for any occasion.

Lake Texoma August and September Fishing Report

The August fishing has been well above average. We are catching lots of stripers small, medium and large. You could call it a mixed bag of lots of fun! Early mornings it’s top water action. We have located some really nice fish. We board and depart at first light and cast Pencil Popper topwater plugs on the shallow banks. Recently we have had fish from 5 – 15 lbs. exploding on our plugs. Jimmy had a huge 40-inch monster striper throw a plug at the side of the boat. This action is just beginning and will continue till November. There is nothing more exciting than topwater striper fishing on Lake Texoma!

The topwater fishing is worth the price of admission but there is still more to come. After an hour or so of topwater action we change our technique and begin slabbing and jigging. The fish have moved up on the flats. We vertically drop the slabs over the side of the boat and bump the slabs a foot off the bottom. You will locate most of the fish from 10’ – 30’ depths of water. In September, we will cast soft plastics like the Coho minnow and Sassy Shad jigs. When you are on the perfect school of fish, you can have multiple hookups. That is when everyone onboard is fighting a fish at the same time. The temperatures are mild and the fish love it.  Besides catching bunches of stripers, we also catch a lot of sandies (white bass).

July fishing on Lake Texoma has been nothing short of awesome! We are catching lots of nice stripers in 30' to 70' of water up to 15 lbs. "Slabs rule…" A slab is a painted lead spoon meant to fish vertically. The hot ones to use are the Blakley's and Moe's Fiesta slabs in 1.5 ounce size and chartreuse and white colors. Locate your fish on your fishfinders, drop them and let them free-fall to the bottom. The rest is simple, use a very fast retrieve, we call this "rippin' em' up". The fish will almost set the hook themselves, so hold on tight. They will try to take the rod out of your hands. Our customers are saying they have sore stomachs from the butt of the rod pressing into their mid sections. But they keep laughing and endure the painful pleasure.

The summer months on Lake Texoma are legendary! Your fishing adventure awaits you with Striper Express.

May is always awesome fishing on Lake Texoma. Striper Express specializes in artifical lure fishing. The muddy water has pushed us way up the lake. Everyday our boats are searching for clear water. We have been catching lots of fish. If your lucky you'll find a school of stripers surfacing.

Chris found a school of big fish surfacing this week and kept 38 and released 59 up to 12 lbs.Jimmy found some on top and loaded up. Most fish are biting sassy shad jigs.

If there is a month to pick as one of the best times to fish at Lake Texoma, you have to include May. The stripers are returning from their annual spawn and are hungry. The shad are also spawning and this makes for fantastic fishing. We are casting topwater plugs on the shallow banks and in the flooded trees early in the mornings. Take a look at the short video on our home page titled: FISH EATS FOOTLONG SHAD. Just today, Chris was rockin’ along with a dozen fish and found a school of large stripers surfacing in open water. He kept thirty-eight stripers and released another fifty-nine up to 12lbs. No Joke!! Sassy Shad jigs are deadly on these post spawn fish. Jimmy this week had a charter where four anglers caught and released almost one hundred fish up to 11lbs. The lake is on the rise after several days of rain in the Red River Valley. Our guides are finding clear water and having a blast. Now is the time to get in on some “rippin’ lips” action.

Striper fishing has been great this month and should continue to improve. Striped bass are holding tight to structure such as points, run-off creeks and ditches. Weather has been a rollercoaster.

Lure weight depends on wind but whites, pearl and glo seem best. March will bring out the sows on roadrunners. I love that jig fishing. Some evenings the fish have schooled up and gave us a great bite.

Fish are fat, egging up and mad. Stripers have all moved mid to up lake "north&west".  The schooling has all but ceased. This really is one of my favorite ways to fish. Roadrunners, jigs and numerous soft plastics are the weapons. Fishing structure from main lake points, humps and creeks are the battle fields. Several of these winter holes fill the day with adventure and most days produce 15-30 NICE fish. Ever see an eagle feed on the same point your fishing?  These winter stripers are stout right now ready to pull that drag.

Winter Fishing is where it’s at!

Few anglers know how good the fishing is in the winter. Cool water temperatures make   the fishing turn into catching.  Large stripers up to 20 lbs will move on structure like main lake points, mouths of creeks, humps and ditches. Texoma stripers are like bass on steroids. This pattern of artificial lure fishing is how I fished the first time I came to Texoma years ago. I brought my bass tackle with 12 lb test and my guide Cracker Shelby said, "go put that crappie rod back in the truck". We landed 23 stripers up to 15 lbs. Had to tell all my bass buddies…You’ve got to do this!

RoadRunner time on Texoma. This our big fish lure of choice. The one ounce white bucktail tipped with a 7 inch soft plastic worm is deadly on the fish. Sassy Shad jigs in whiteglo and chartreuse colors are always a great producer. The seagulls are always your best fish locator. Keep your eyes peeled for the birds working. The stripers drive the shad to the surface. You can position your boat in front of the birds and have multiple hook-ups. If the fish stay grouped up you can catch them till your tired.

Fishing on Lake Texoma has been great. We are catching stripers up to 8.5 lbs. on 1 ounce chartreuse Sassy Shad jigs. The birds are our best fish locator. We are running structure routes and keeping our eyes on the birds. There’s a good sand bass mix along with the stripers. With the currrent weather forecasts and the current striper run we are expecting good striper fishing in December.

Luke Clayton, Outdoors writer and Radio Personality, recently spent the day fishing with Striper Express and wrote the following column.

TEXOMA STRIPERS HITTING TOPWATERS   Luke Clayton

Pottsboro- Lake Texoma guide Chris Carey with Striper Express eased his boat out of the protected waters of Highport Marina recently and pointed it's bow into a steady 25 mph breeze. Conditions weren't idea, at least by most schools of thought, for fishing with top water baits but Carey was exuding optimism. “We tore the stripers up yesterday, and the wind was blowing just as hard. Striped bass are saltwater transplants and they often respond to turbulent weather and waters by going on a feeding frenzy. We’ve been catching them on top waters with regularity during the first couple hours of daylight, regardless the wind. We should get our lines stretched this morning,” he added.

Carey maneuvered the boat downwind of a small island, positioning us on the leeward side a long cast away shallow water. “Throw up into that 2 foot water and really move some water with those big Chug Bugs, the bait and stripers are in here but you’ll have to really churn the surface with those plugs to  attract their attention.” says Carey.  The strong wind pushing the water onto the shallows gave the appearance of a rip tide with a strong current. We began throwing hard, placing the baits as closely as possible to the bank.  I noted a blue heron setting on the bank, occasionally stabbing it’s beak into the water, occasionally snagging a shad, just about the size of our top water plug.  My confidence level was building; baitfish were obviously here. Our plugs perfectly matched the size of the shad the bird was feeding on and… Carey was here the day before under similar conditions and the stripers were aggressive.

Terry Glenn #83 of the Dallas Cowboys booked a fishing charter with us in May. Everyone at Striper Express are big Cowboy fans. Terry brought his family with him, his lovely wife and their three great kids. I can’t leave out Banks, Terry’s friend from college days. We get a kick out of all jocks, they are always the most competitive anglers. While Terry and Banks were trading places on who was catching more and bigger fish, Terry’s five year old daughter was setting the bar on fishability. Later on, Terry made a long cast and a eleven pound striper attacked his jig. The fish made a long run, it was stripping line and the drag was screaming. Terry finally turned the big fish and what a great fight! What a way to finish off the day.

They ended up catching over fifty fish. After twenty five years, we have met a lot of great people in our fishing business. We have been able to build wonderful relationships and watch the kids grow up. Terry has a feeling for people and family along with a passion for the outdoors. He’s our kind of people and our bond is beautiful Lake Texoma.
