Winter Fishing is where it’s at!

Few anglers know how good the fishing is in the winter. Cool water temperatures make   the fishing turn into catching.  Large stripers up to 20 lbs will move on structure like main lake points, mouths of creeks, humps and ditches. Texoma stripers are like bass on steroids. This pattern of artificial lure fishing is how I fished the first time I came to Texoma years ago. I brought my bass tackle with 12 lb test and my guide Cracker Shelby said, "go put that crappie rod back in the truck". We landed 23 stripers up to 15 lbs. Had to tell all my bass buddies…You’ve got to do this!

RoadRunner time on Texoma. This our big fish lure of choice. The one ounce white bucktail tipped with a 7 inch soft plastic worm is deadly on the fish. Sassy Shad jigs in whiteglo and chartreuse colors are always a great producer. The seagulls are always your best fish locator. Keep your eyes peeled for the birds working. The stripers drive the shad to the surface. You can position your boat in front of the birds and have multiple hook-ups. If the fish stay grouped up you can catch them till your tired.

We here at Tinker’s Striper Guide Service hope the Holiday Season brings only happiness and joy to you and your loved ones.

May the closeness of friends, the comfort of home, and the unity of our nation renew your sprits the holiday season.

The water temperature is down to 58 degrees and we are starting to see some larger stripers being brought to the cleaning table. Check out the pictures from December 6th and 7th. Bill Morrow from Gainsville, TX caught a 12 lb striper.

Tinker's Lake Texoma Striper Fishing Report

With the shorter days we are only running one trip a day and with the cold mornings lately give the fishermen an opportunity for the sun to come up and heat the air. We can go out as early as 7:30 AM or as late as 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM. Afternoon trips can depart as early as 12:00 PM.

Jerry Whitson from Wheatland MO brought 7 of his buddies for 3 days. Filets from 240 stripers went to MO. On November 8th Clarence (Red) Dingus from Holcomb KS brought 13 with him for a three day adventure. They all took back a limit of stripers for each day and we got meatloaf. Frymire sent 20 people for a fun day of striper fishing on the 15th of November. Chuck Bush from Fuzzys Taco Shop in Fort Worth brought 7 employees and customers for striper adventure. We had a trade. They took back home a limit of stripers we got enchiladas. On November 21st Toll Brothers brought 33 people. They all took home limits we got deer sausage. We scored big time this month.

Fishing on Lake Texoma has been great. We are catching stripers up to 8.5 lbs. on 1 ounce chartreuse Sassy Shad jigs. The birds are our best fish locator. We are running structure routes and keeping our eyes on the birds. There’s a good sand bass mix along with the stripers. With the currrent weather forecasts and the current striper run we are expecting good striper fishing in December.

Not Fishing related, but this involves some friends of ours and any information would be greatly appreciated.

On November 1, 2008 someone had taken a railroad tie and laid it perpendicular across the service road in the left lane just before the entrance ramp. A group of motorcyclists were heading up the sevice road to get on to northbound 75 and could not see the railroad tie. One rider died at the scene and 3 others had to be taken to Parkland. A Reward has been set up for anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who placed the railroad tie where it could not be seen.

Well with the winter setting in here at Texoma, fishing has slowed down. I finished a trip this saturday, a real pretty day, with a group of seven, who limited out with lots of good fish, and a great time. They also noticed I get real comical when getting near our limit, and heading in. All-in all, this year has been real great.

Cross Creek Lake Texoma Striper Guide Service

I have met a lot of new friends and closed out with lots of old friends (Riha) who always fish around thanksgiving, and they will be sending some extra pictures soon, on their great catches. We had our limit early, and therefore Bob calls it his half-day trips. (lol) The fishing is still good, but slowing with cold weather, so unless you like to fish in cold weather, have a great Christimas and Happy New Year. "JD"
